Verizon's data breach response division ironically gets hacked

Verizon's business unit that helps Fortune 500 companies respond to data breaches is now the victim of a data breach itself, reports KrebsOnSecurity.

Verizon Enterprise Solutions is a business-to-business unit of the company. A hacker stole data from Verizon Enterprise's database containing information of nearly 1.5 million customers and is selling the information, according to the report.

"Verizon recently discovered and remediated a security vulnerability on our enterprise client portal," the company told KrebsOnSecurity via email. "Our investigation to date found an attacker obtained basic contact information on a number of our enterprise customers. No customer proprietary network information or other data was accessed or accessible."

According to the report, the hacker is offering to sell all the data in one chunk for $100,000, but is also offering to sell portions of 100,000 records for $10,000 per block.

The report suggests the customers whose data was hacked and potentially sold may be easy targets for upcoming targeted attacks.
