University of Iowa Health Care Transitioning From Pagers to iPhones

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City has begun transitioning its clinical staff from pagers to iPhones, according to a KCRG report.

The health system recently began distributing iPhones to its physicians and nurses, and has handed out 1,500 total smartphones, according to the report.

“We know that the paging system was probably in its twilight years and it’s limited in its functionality,” said Patrick Duffy, director of technical operations at University of Iowa Health Care, in the report. He estimated pagers will be phased out completely throughout the system in the coming years.
