The hospital is projecting an operating loss of $12.2 million for fiscal year 2014, largely due to the costs of the new Epic@UNC system, according to a report in the Durham Herald Sun. UNC Health Care CFO John Lewis said the system had a “substantial impact” on the health system’s finances for 2014, according to the report.

The health system’s post-implementation finances look much better, according to a budget approved by the organization’s board of directors Monday. The 2015 budget projects an operating income of $50.3 million, according to the report.
