Here are three things to know about the project.
1. The Peoples Rural Telephone Cooperative, the Jackson County Public Library, NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association and the Veterans Affairs hospital in Lexington, Ky., partnered to create the pilot project, which aims to connect veterans with remote healthcare services.
2. The Virtual Living Room Telehealth Center, stationed at the Jackson County Public Library in McKee, Ky., comprises furnishings like couches and coffee tables. Veterans who visits the center will be able to remotely speak with clinicians from the Lexington VA Medical Center.
3. Keith Gabbard, CEO of the Peoples Rural Telephone Cooperative, told Kentucky Today the collaborators conceived of the Virtual Living Room idea during the White House Rural Telehealth Summit.
“Providing telehealth services is eliminating the burden of travel that so many veterans face commuting to and from Lexington,” Mr. Gabbard said. “We wanted to provide the service and our public library graciously offered the space.”
