Here are three things to know about the legislation, HB308.

1. The bill seeks $590,000 from the state’s Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health to establish a telehealth health pilot program to connect public schools students with mental health resources.

2. Only one committee member voted against the bill, arguing that providing telemental health services was not the “proper role of our public schools.”

3. Rep. Ken Ivory, R-West Jordan, who sponsored the bill, said Utah suffered from a lack of mental health services. He said the program would help schools prevent disruptions from children experiencing mental health crises.
