For the report, Research2Guidance surveyed 2,400-plus mHealth developers and healthcare professionals about their experiences in app development and digital health.
Here are three report findings.
1. The cost of developing an mHealth app has significantly grown during recent years, according to the report. In 2011, the typical project size for developing an app — across industries — ranged from $30,000 to $40,000.
2. Almost half of mHealth development costs — 47 percent — are outsourced to third-party app development agencies or freelancers, while 11 percent of the budget is spent on marketing initiatives.
3. The average time to develop an mHealth app is 15 months, with 56 percent of apps launching within one year of development.
