NYC startup could become first telehealth company to unionize

Resilience Lab, a New York City-based startup that matches clients with remote therapists, could become the first telehealth company to unionize after employees petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to join DC 37, the Gothamist reported Dec. 29.

The unionization campaign comes after 12 therapists were fired in November, giving their 271 clients a few days’ notice that care would be disrupted. DC 37 is New York City’s largest municipal employee union and represents the public hospital workers.

The firings came after the company raised $15 million in a series A financing round.

“While we respect our colleagues’ rights to seek union representation or vote against joining, we do not believe this model provides the necessary flexibility for the current stage of development of Resilience Lab to continue providing the best possible treatment for our clients and support for our clinicians,” CEO and co-founder Marc Goldberg told the Gothamist.
