The health system extended its telemedicine services to six more districts, setting its total number to 22 districts it provides virtual care for. During the virtual visits, CoxHealth providers can diagnose students without them having to leave school.
Appointments are optional, and students’ parents can participate either in person or by phone or video with a smartphone. If the student is diagnosed, the physician can send prescriptions directly to the family’s preferred pharmacy.
CoxHealth’s school-based telemedicine services began in 2017 in Monett, Mo., after the health system received a grant from the USDA and an additional $90,000 in funding from Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth in Springfield.
