The program, dubbed the Alabama Public Health Telehealth Network, provides veterans with opportunities to access Birmingham VA Medical Center physicians from a set of remote locations. Under the program, county-level health departments throughout Alabama — including Cullman County Health Department — are now equipped with video conferencing equipment and digital stethoscopes.
Through the Alabama Public Health Telehealth Network veterans will be able to access diabetes education and mental health counseling, among other diagnosis and treatment services.
“Veterans give so much of their lives to protect us and this country and have done through the ages,” U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., said during the ribbon cutting, according to The Cullman Times. “One of the commitments that we make to them is that we are going to provide healthcare.”
