Sutter Health, Validic collaborate on pilot program to better deliver patient-generated data to care teams

Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health teamed up with Validic, a digital health company, to determine how patient-generated health data can most effectively be delivered to care teams and researchers.

The two organizations collaborated on a joint pilot project that aims to connect data generated through mobile applications, wearables and clinical in-home devices to care teams’ EHRs or clinical dashboards.

The pilot program targeted Sutter Health patients with type II diabetes in September. Participating patients downloaded Sutter’s Mpower app on their smartphone. Through Validic’s digital health platform, the Mpower app can securely connect to various devices that measure blood glucose, blood pressure, level of activity and weight. The system could then interpret the information and provide visual feedback and incentives to keep patients engaged in their care. The Mpower app also uses Validic’s VitalSnap, which enables patients to capture and share information from analog in-home medical devices.

The pilot program is part of a larger project funded by HHS’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
