Survey: Only 31% of organizations have planned security changes, despite experiencing a cyberattack

The number one security concern organizations are facing in 2017 is ransomware, according to a survey by the cybersecurity company Barkly.

Barkly surveyed IT professionals from more than 100 organizations, the plurality of whom report worries of ransomware (35 percent), followed by user mistakes (30 percent) and phishing (15 percent). However, the majority of these organizations do not have concrete plans for updated cybersecurity measures.

Here's what you need to know:

1. The majority, 59 percent, of organizations had been targeted for at least one cyberattack; 32 percent of organizations reported being hit with a successful attack.

2. About one third, 34 percent, of organizations had been targeted for at least one ransomware attack; 24 percent of organizations reported being hit with a successful ransomware attack.

3. Still, the majority, 64 percent, of organizations say they have no cybersecurity changes planned for 2017, with an additional 13 percent reporting they are unsure of future changes; only 23 percent report making changes to their security measures in 2017.

4. For those who had been targeted for an attack, 52 percent say they have no cybersecurity changes planned and 17 percent report they are unsure; only 31 percent report making changes to their security measures in 2017.

5. The majority, 93 percent, of organizations say they are at least moderately confident of their cybersecurity measures; similarly, 92 percent of those who were targeted for an attack say they are at least moderately confident.
