Researchers studied the literature and western states’ experiences to assess the costs and benefits of telestroke in 90-day and lifetime horizons. They found that compared to usual care, telestroke produced an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of $108,363 per quality-adjusted life-year in the 90-day horizon and $2,449 per QALY in the lifetime horizon.
The authors suggested telestroke is cost-effective compared to usual care because telestroke requires costs upfront but yields lifelong benefits.
