Senate Democrats threaten to block cybersecurity legislation attached to defense bill

This week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced plans to pair the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act with the National Defense Authorization Act, and Senate Democrats have not reacted favorably, according to a report from The Hill.

The CISA was previously backed by Democrats, but now that it has been tacked on to a defense bill they are threatening to block the legislation.

CISA is co-sponsored by Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), but they are now on opposing sides of the argument.

Sen. Burr accuses Democrats for opposing a cybersecurity bill they were previously in favor of, while Sen. Feinstein argues Sen. McConnell’s action has put the bipartisan bill in danger, according to the report.

The White House previously indicated it may veto the National Defense Authorization Act.
