PwC to enter DOD's EHR contract bidding war

PricewaterhouseCoopers US has announced its intent to develop a bid for the Department of Defense's Healthcare Management Systems Modernization EHR contract.

The DoD is looking for a commercial replacement for its current EHR and information system.

PwC is joining forces with EHR vendors DSS and MedSphere and systems integrator General Dynamics Information Technology to present an open source EHR system.

PwC joins four other bids for the contract, three of which are joint partnerships between vendors and companies with expertise in large-scale government contracts. Epic and IBM were the first to announce their bid and were later joined by Impact Advisors. Next, Allscripts, CSC and HP announced their bid, followed by a bid from Cerner, Accenture Federal Services and Leidos.

The Department of Veterans Affairs also intends to bid on the contract with an advanced version of its Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture.

The latest bid from PwC proposes an "Open Architecture" EHR which will help integrate existing DoD systems as well as provide access for ongoing EHR innovations.
