Beth Cobert, acting OPM director, said in a speech at the annual Federal Employees Health Benefits Program that the agency plans to issue new rules. The agency previously established an IT security work group with payers in the FEHBP to ensure their security practices “are complete, sufficient and uniform when it comes to reporting data breaches,” Ms. Cobert said, according to the report.
“Whether it was the intrusions we suffered at OPM or the breaches at so many other insurers and healthcare providers, we must work together to keep the information entrusted to us secure,” she said in her speech.
Ms. Cobert is referring to the breach on OPM personnel which compromised the sensitive information of nearly 21.5 million Americans.
