An Office of the National Coordinator survey of more than 2,000 patients has found that Americans distrust EHRs to the extent that they will withhold health information during a healthcare visit, according to a report from Government HealthIT.

Three-quarters of those surveyed expressed concern over the security of EHRs, and one in 10 report withholding information from providers who use EHRs, in comparison to the 6 percent who do so when visiting providers with paper record systems.

However, 76 percent also said they wanted providers to continue to use EHRs, despite potential concerns over information security and privacy, according to the report.
