The strategy aims to leverage the Health Level 7 – Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources. As a part of the new initiative, the ONC is launching app challenges that will dole out $625,000 in awards.

The first challenge invites developers to put forth consumer-facing apps that use standardized APIs with a focus on helping consumers get and use their own health data. The second contest will give funding awards for apps designed to improve EHR user experience. The final contest focuses the development of app discovery sites, which would make it easier for developers to publish and compare apps.
