ONC Advocates for More Public Health IT Infrastructure

Taking full advantage of the health reporting capabilities of providers’ electronic health record systems requires public reporting agencies to have more robust infrastructure, according to a new issue brief from the ONC.

Bidirectional public health data exchange has the potential to help both the government and providers better manage population health by connecting disparate providers and integrating data, according to the brief.

The ONC is currently working with public health entities on standards development and end-to-end testing to foster the development of the necessary infrastructure, according to the brief.
