The statewide patient record lookup tool was rolled out in 2015 and is now fully operational.
The tool functions like a search engine. Providers accessing the SHIN-NY through an EHR or a qualified entity like health information exchanges can search for and view a patient’s record after receiving consent from the patient.
This functionality is available in individual HIE and QE networks, but the statewide patient record lookup tool lets providers search for records across all of New York, covering 37 million individuals.
