NSF CIO Amy Northcutt dies: 5 things to know

Amy Ann Northcutt, 57, died from complications related to a brain tumor on May 6, according an obituary in the Falls Church News-Press. The Falls Church, Va., resident was diagnosed with the tumor on April 27.

Here are five things to know about Ms. Northcutt.

1. At the time of her death, Ms. Northcutt served as CIO of the National Science Foundation. She was recognized as one of FedScoop.com's "Top Women in Tech 2017" for the role.

2. Prior to her CIO position, she served as the NSF's deputy general counsel and acting director of its office of information and resource management.

3. Ms. Northcutt previously held positions as vice president for administration at Washington, D.C.-based Wesley Theological Seminary and as CEO of the federal Interstate Commerce Commission.

4. She graduated from Northampton, Mass.-based Smith College with a bachelor of arts in government in 1982. She also earned a master's degree in religious studies from The University of Chicago Divinity School in 1983 and a law degree from Boston College Law School in 1987.

5. Ms. Northcutt's family will hold a June 17 memorial service in Washington, D.C. The family also established a scholarship in her memory, which supports women pursuing theological studies.
