Novartis, Google to start testing smart contact lens in humans next year

Next year, Novartis in collaboration with Google will begin human tests of a smart contact lens that aims to restore the eye's natural autofocus, according to Reuters.

Joe Jimenez, CEO of Novartis, said the company is developing a technological lens prototype for people with age-related vision issues that should be ready by 2016.

The two companies have partnered to develop two different types of smart contact lenses. In addition to this one, Novartis and Google are also working on a smart lens to help diabetics track and manage their blood glucose levels.
