In 2016, MassChallenge worked with 218 startups, according to its 2015 Impact Report, and is now looking to expand its impact on the digital health space by launching a healthcare-specific hub.
The accelerator will use a $250,000 state grant to initially subsidize the new hub, and Scott Bailey, managing director of MassChallenge’s flagship, told The Boston Globe it expects private sector sponsors to support it into the future.
The new hub will be housed in a facility near Longwood Medical Area, a medical campus in Boston. “Longwood is known as one of the richest centers for healthcare in the country,” said Mr. Bailey. “We need people to be able to walk from the hospitals and go to MassChallenge to engage with the [startups].”
The digital health hub expects to host between 30 and 40 startups at any given time, according to the report.
