Maryland Medicaid Expands Telemedicine Coverage

A new program in Maryland has expanded the telemedicine services eligible for reimbursement under the state's Medicaid program to include consultations with specialists for patients in rural areas, according to a Baltimore Sun report.

The expansion defines which counties are considered rural and stipulates a patient must be in their primary physician's office during the consult, according to the report.

The program also allows providers from anywhere in the state to provide consultation for cardiovascular or stroke patients, provided the call comes from a hospital's emergency department, according to the report.
