Lexington Medical Center hit with data breach affecting employees

Lexington (S.C.) Medical Center has reported a cyberattack on its employee information database, eConnect/Peoplesoft, according to WISTV.com.

The medical center discovered the breach on Feb. 17.

The database contains current and former employees’ names, Social Security numbers and W-2 forms.

“When Lexington Medical Center discovered this situation, we immediately eliminated further unauthorized access, promptly began an investigation and engaged several national cybersecurity professionals to assist us,” a statement from the medical center reads. “We also contacted federal and state law enforcement officials.”

Lexington Medical Center has set up a call center to answer affected employees’ questions. It is also offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to impacted employees.
