IT workers most familiar with Epic, MEDITECH joins CommonWell & more – 7 health IT key notes

Here are seven recent updates on healthcare IT companies.

A Greythorn study published April 1 showed that the majority of healthcare IT workers in the U.S. are familiar with Epic's EHR platform. Approximately 59 percent of full-time and 79 percent of part-time workers said they were most familiar with the system.

Lifespan, a Providence, R.I.-based health system, went live on Epic's EHR system. The new system, called LifeChart, includes a patient portal, a provide portal and a data sharing platform that allows LifeSpan to share records with other health systems on Epic platforms.

Oklahoma State University Health System in Tulsa plans to implement Epic's EHR system through an agreement with Mercy Technology Services which has an agreement with Epic to provide the EHR as a software-as-a-system service.

MEDITECH joined the CommonWell Health Alliance as a contributing member April 1, alongside EHR provider Kareo and imaging systems provider Merge. A representative from Cerner, one of the alliance's founding partners, welcomed the new members to the alliance.

IBM and Apple announced the launch of four apps targeted toward the healthcare industry on the iOS platform. The apps are the latest installment in the two companies' MobileFirst initiative, which aims to encourage the development of enterprise apps for the iOS platform.

eClinicalWorks will integrate patient-generated data from wearable medical devices into its EHR platform through its subsidiary healow, which connects wearables with EHR databases.

Vocera Communications announced it will expand its partnership with Epic's EHR platform, integrating more communications functions to allow hospital staff to communicate via mobile and desktop platforms in real time.
