IT salaries around the world: Where does the US rank?

Technology jobs are booming globally as the world becomes a more digitized, connected ecosystem. However, salaries of IT professionals widely vary from country to country, sometimes as much as a difference of five-fold.

A Wall Street Journal report citing salaries statistics from MyHiringClub.com ranked countries by the salaries of mid-career level IT staff around the world. Data was gathered from human resources managers about salary scales from approximately 9,500 companies around the world.

The United States came fourth in the ranking, with an average salary of $132,877.

Here are the 10 countries with the highest mid-career level IT salary, according to the report.

1. Switzerland: $171,564

2. Belgium: $152,980

3. Denmark: $139,920

4. United States.: $132,877

5. Ireland: $122,433

6. Germany: $116,454

7. Canada: $115,232

8. Australia: $112,340

9. Hong Kong: $105,302

10. Argentina: $51,380

Noticeably, Asian countries known for their IT exports, like India and the Philippines, aren't among the top 10 salaries, something that may be attributed to the complexity of roles in certain areas, according to Rajesh Kumar, CEOof MyHiringClub.com.

"Lower-level roles are being moved to regions where talent is cheaper; the jobs that remain in Western Europe and the United States may be fewer in number but are more demanding and complex," he said.
