Sutter Health is expanding the use of a wearable ultrasound device designed to guide fluid treatment in patients with sepsis to three additional Northern California hospitals.
The Sacramento, Calif.-based health system said the technology, known as FloPatch, will be introduced at Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo, Calif., Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, Calif., and the Berkeley campus of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley, Calif. The device provides clinicians with real-time data on how a patient is responding to intravenous fluids, helping inform treatment decisions at the bedside, according to an April 14 news release.
Sutter Health plans to incorporate the technology into its sepsis care protocols to support more personalized treatment and reduce unnecessary interventions, including avoidable ICU admissions and complications tied to fluid overload.
