The four tips, according to an AHA blog post:
- Take a people-first approach: The AHA recommends investing in human talent familiar with AI. Boston Children’s, for example, is searching for a prompt engineer to help the hospital utilize GPT tools.
- Prepare proprietary data: Generative AI models require massive and diverse data sets to train on. Hospitals need to maintain and secure these large datasets to ensure that AI will be useful.
- Invest in sustainable tech foundation: While AI models are useful, the energy they use can be costly. The hospital group suggests providers looking to harness AI should make sure they are doing so in a sustainable manner.
- Deliver responsible AI: As with any new technology, AI poses serious ethical and moral questions. The AHA advocates for AI risk assessment and for healthcare organizations to create responsible principles.
