Illinois hospital agrees to pay $250 to patients whose bills were sent to wrong people

Dixon, Ill.-based Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital has agreed to pay up to $250 each to patients whose bills were sent to the wrong people.

In 2021, a software error caused the hospital’s third-party billing vendor, Magnet Solutions, to send bills to the incorrect patients, according to court documents.

The data breach affected a reported 1,553 individuals, so the settlement will total $380,000. A fairness hearing has been set for March 28.
