HHS Investigation Into Walgreens' Well Experience Store Model Ends

HHS has notified Walgreens that its Well Experience store model has the appropriate safeguards in place to protect patient privacy, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal

Walgreens' Well Experience model has pharmacists at desks in the public area to speak with patients. While the pharmacists are in the public area they use computers to supervise technicians filling prescriptions in the pharmacy area.

HHS began its investigation into the Well Experience model when Change to Win, a consumer advocacy group, filed a complaint against Walgreens alleging the Well Experience store model violates patient privacy laws by allowing protected patient health information to be left unattended at desks in the public area.

Although HHS will take no further action against Walgreens concerning the allegations made by Change to Win, the group said there are still changes that need to be made to the Well Experience model to protect patient information, according to The Wall Street Journal
