Mr. Palmisano served as IBM’s CEO for nearly a decade, retiring in December 2011. He now will serve as vice-chair of the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity alongside President Barack Obama’s former national security advisor Thomas Donilon, who will be chair of the commission.

The two will lead a 12-person group directed to provide recommendations to the government on how to better protect the government, business and consumers by Dec. 1.

The other 10 members have not yet been appointed.

Mr. Palmisano and Mr. Donilon met with President Obama Wednesday at the White House.
