Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins said he hopes to expand the rollout of the Oracle EHR system to 20 to 25 additional VA medical facilities in fiscal year 2027, Nextgov/FCW reported May 15.
Here are four things to know:
- Mr. Collins said the planned deployment of the EHR system at 13 facilities in 2026 could pave the way for a broader rollout the following year if it proves successful.
- In December, the VA announced it would resume implementation of the Oracle EHR system — formerly developed by Cerner — at four Michigan facilities in mid-2026, following a pause prompted by patient safety concerns, technical issues and usability problems.
- The Trump administration’s fiscal year 2026 budget proposal, released May 2, includes a $2.2 billion funding increase to support the system’s continued deployment.
- The VA initially signed a $10 billion contract with Cerner in 2018. That figure has since grown to more than $16 billion. Oracle acquired Cerner in 2022.
