The Department of Veterans Affairs is making measurable progress in its effort to implement a unified Oracle Health EHR system across all VA medical centers by 2031, according to Paul Lawrence, PhD, deputy secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Dr. Lawrence wrote in a June 16 LinkedIn post that the department is currently engaged in deployment activities at 11 sites across Michigan, Southern Ohio and Indiana, all of which are slated to go live with the new EHR system in 2026.
He also noted that site activation for Cleveland and Anchorage—the final locations scheduled for deployment that year—will begin later this month.
According to Dr. Lawrence, the team, alongside Oracle Health leaders, are also working to address critical issues such as pharmacy modules, referrals and outdated processes.
“We’re rolling up our sleeves to tackle the tough issues head-on,” he said.
The EHR modernization effort is part of a broader federal initiative to improve care coordination between the VA and the Defense Department by creating a single, seamless health record for service members and veterans.
