Five things to know:
1. VA officials are planning to integrate the EHR into nine more hospitals than originally planned next year, according to the report. The additional locations are yet to be determined.
2. The EHR rollout is expected to cost $16 billion and take more than a decade to complete. It was paused in 2023 after initially rolling out to a few facilities and experiencing issues.
3. Oracle Health and the VA have made improvements to the EHR in the last two years and reported a successful install at a Chicago-based health center last year.
4. The VA’s revised timeline for the project is completing the EHR rollout to its 171 hospitals by 2031.
5. A March 13 Government Accountability Office report showed around 66% of current users didn’t believe the EHR was as efficient as it could be, but this was an improvement over the 89% who reported the same in 2022.
