Bryan Health is tapping its Epic EHR system to participate in the federal Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, or TEFCA.

The Lincoln, Neb.-based health system said in a Nov. 20 news release that TEFCA participation will help ensure patients’ records follow them wherever they seek care. Since joining the network this fall, Bryan Health has expanded its data-sharing partners from about 1,500 to nearly 2,200.

Monthly record exchanges have also increased, rising from more than 600,000 before TEFCA participation to more than 800,000, according to the release.

TEFCA is a federal initiative aimed at standardizing and securing information exchange among providers, payers and public agencies. Epic Systems’ Epic Nexus network became a federally designated Qualified Health Information Network in 2023, allowing approved organizations to exchange health data nationwide under TEFCA.
