Over 9,200 healthcare organizations have joined a national network for EHR interoperability.
Here are four things to know from an Aug. 6 Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/ONC blog post:
1. The organizations have signed on to the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, or TEFCA, which was mandated as part of the 21st Century Cures Act in 2016 to improve healthcare data interoperability.
2. TEFCA went live in 2023 with five Qualified Health Information Networks, which are comprised of organizations (including health systems) that agree to work together to share data. There are now 10 QHINs.
3. The organizations represent more than 41,000 unique connections to hospitals, clinics, post-acute and long-term care facilities, public health agencies and other healthcare entities.
4. The Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/ONC launched an interactive map Aug. 6 to search for participating TEFCA organizations.
