Healow, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Westborough, Mass.-based eClinicalWorks, is an application that serves as a middleman to connect wearable devices to EHR systems. The Boston-based company will direct data from a user’s wearable device into his or her personal health record and to healow’s mobile app. With a patient’s consent, the data will sync with the EHR and eClinicalWorks will provide analytics of a patient’s daily habits, according to MedCity News.
eClinicalWorks follows the lead of Cerner, which has partnered with Validic to sync wearable data with its EHR. In its announcement, the company cited a PricewaterhouseCoopers survey that showed wearable adoption is steadily increasing and may give providers a closer look at their patients’ health. The intent of the project is to give providers a better method to track patient behavior to improve outcomes, according to the report.
“A more informed patient is generally a healthier one,” said Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks, in a statement. “By giving consumers a single place to view their health records along with device and tracker data, it simplifies managing this information while keeping the quarterback of care, their physician, in the loop.”
