The app, dubbed PoxApp, uses users’ smartphones to take pictures of skin lesions. The app then has the user answer a few questions to receive a risk score with recommendations, such as mpox testing or post-exposure vaccination, according to a March 2 release from Stanford.
The PoxApp could accurately predict which skin lesions were caused by mpox 90 percent of the time, but Stanford scientists said it can produce false negatives and is not a replacement for physicians.
