In April, UPMC notified nearly 27,000 of its total 62,000 employees their information, including Social Security numbers, had been accessed by hackers.
The hackers filed phony tax returns for nearly 800 UPMC employees using the information they accessed.
This class-action lawsuit is unique because the employees are seeking 25 years of identity theft insurance, credit restoration services and credit and bank monitoring services rather than monetary damages, according to WTAE.
