A ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the hack of Harlan, Iowa-based Myrtue Medical Center, Claim Depot reported June 29.

In a June 27 notice, the hospital said it detected suspicious activity on its network June 13 and has since been trying to determine impacted individuals and data.

“Upon discovery of this incident, Myrtue Medical Center promptly strengthened the security of its systems and engaged a specialized third-party cybersecurity firm to conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident,” the hospital said.

Ransomware gang Worldleaks posted on a data leak site June 24, claiming it accessed and stole 1.2 terabytes of data, including 806,625 files, from the hospital, according to the Claim Depot article. Becker’s reached out to Myrtue Medical Center for comment.
