Four things to know:
- Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam said May 27: “We are excited to be able to announce that we have now brought on the National Guard to make sure that there will be no break in continuity of our contact tracing efforts to be able to really carry us through to a more permanent transition there as well,” KDKA reported.
- The health department’s former contact tracing vendor, Insight Global, had a contract set to the end of July. However, after a data breach that affected 72,000 Pennsylvania residents, the health department decided to terminate the $23 million contract on June 19.
- When the early termination was announced, Ms. Beam said regardless of the contract’s early break, there will not be a pause in contact tracing. The contact tracing hotline will continue to be staffed.
- The data breach has led state senators to push for amendments in personal data breach legislation for data breaches within state governments, which includes vendors, the article said.
