An unknown actor may have gained unauthorized access to and acquired certain data from Community Hospital of Anaconda in Montana.
Here are five things to know:
- On Aug. 12, the hospital became aware of unusual activity on its IT systems.
- Following an investigation into the incident, the hospital learned that an unauthorized party may have accessed or acquired patients’ protected health information between Aug. 10 and Aug. 12, according to a May 20 news release.
- The potentially exposed information varies by individual and may include dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, U.S. military identification numbers, passport numbers, financial account information, patient account numbers, medical record numbers, Medicare and Medicaid numbers, treatment details, and health insurance information.
- Affected patients were notified May 19.
- The hospital said it has implemented additional security measures to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
