Gardner, Mass.-based Heywood Healthcare has moved its IT systems offline following a “cybersecurity incident” at the two-hospital system.
Heywood Healthcare — which includes Gardner-based Heywood Hospital, Athol (Mass.) Hospital and Heywood Medical Group — has been dealing with the outage since Oct. 12.
“We are working closely with third-party cybersecurity experts to assess the situation and restore full functionality as quickly and safely as possible,” the organization posted Oct. 16 on Facebook.
During downtime, the health system is encouraging patients to communicate with their providers’ offices through the Athenahealth patient portal or to leave a message with the answering service.
