Kettering (Ohio) Health is experiencing a systemwide technology outage that has prompted the health system to cancel elective inpatient and outpatient procedures across its facilities.

Here are five things to know:

  1. Kettering Health said in a May 20 update on its website that it is experiencing a cybersecurity incident.

  2. The incident, according to the health system, was due to unauthorized access to its network.

  3. Kettering Health said it is actively investigating the incident.

  4. As a result, elective inpatient and outpatient procedures scheduled for May 20 have been canceled, and the health system’s call center is experiencing an outage. The emergency rooms and clinics remain open and are continuing to see patients.

  5. Kettering Health also warned patients in an update that it has received reports of individuals impersonating Kettering Health team members and requesting credit card payments for medical expenses. The health system is encouraging anyone who receives a scam call to report it to local law enforcement and said that it has not been established that these scams calls are connected to the system-wide technology outage.

Kettering Health has 14 medical centers and more than 120 outpatient facilities, according to its website.
