Iowa hospital employee falls victim to phishing attack

Vinton, Iowa-based Virginia Gay Hospital is alerting an unknown number of patients about a phishing attack that may have exposed their protected health information.

Virginia Gay Hospital discovered that an employee had been the target of a phishing attack June 18. There has been no evidence that patient information has been viewed or misused.

Patient information stored in the email account included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and medical information from those who received outpatient services.
