The warning letter, dated Jan. 23, was sent to law enforcement agencies across the country.
“We assess that Russia would consider initiating a cyber attack against the Homeland if it perceived a U.S. or NATO response to a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine threatened its long-term national security,” the letter said.
DHS said Russia is continuing to target U.S. infrastructures with a “range of offensive cyber tools.” U.S. officials have pinned some of the country’s biggest cyberattacks in the past two years on Russia-based cyber criminals, including the Colonial Pipeline attack, SolarWinds attack and attack on meat supplier JBS.
