For the report, Beazley — a London-based cybersecurity insurance company with offices in Asia, Australia, South America, the Middle East and the United States — analyzed data breaches that affected its clients during the second quarter across several industries including healthcare, financial services and higher education.
Here are the top sources of healthcare breaches during the quarter, according to Beazley’s data:
1. Accidental disclosure: 38 percent
2. Hack or malware: 26 percent
3. Insider: 14 percent
4. Physical loss/non-electronic record: 7 percent
5. Portable device: 6 percent
6. Social engineering: 4 percent
Five percent of healthcare breaches resulted from other or unknown causes, according to the report.
