The hospital currently employs 1,400 people across its facilities, but did not disclose how many may have been affected by the breach, according to the Portland Press Herald.
“The hospital is working with the FBI to learn the identity of the individual(s) responsible for this crime so that they can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” hospital representatives wrote in a media statement. “The hospital has engaged legal counsel for the benefit and future protection of the entire organization, and steps are being taken by IT, human resources, and hospital leadership to ensure that no future thefts occur.”
The breach was discovered Monday and there have been no reports of criminal activity or fraud since.
