Curaspan, state of Virginia partner to automate preadmission screening

Curaspan and the state of Virginia aim to save time and money for providers across the state by automating the preadmission screening process for seniors facing long term care.

Preadmission screenings are part of a federal requirement to ensure individuals are not inappropriately placed in nursing homes for long term care.

By streamlining the prior authorization submissions process, participating Virginia hospitals have seen preadmission processing times fall by nearly 45 minutes per patient.

The integrated solution allows hospital staff to complete and submit preadmission screening forms directly to the state within one central portal. The software also pre-populates the forms with information pulled from hospital databases to eliminate redundancies.

“When completing [submissions] in DischargeCentral, we’re using forms that we’ve been using for years, so the familiarity is already there,” said Brenda Parker, a nephrology case manager with SentaraRMHMedicalCenter in Harrisonburg. “I can do a screening on my patient in 15 minutes.”

Curaspan’s solution acts as a bridge between two existing care transition solutions — the Department of Medical Assistance Service’s ePAS software and Curaspan’s existing DischargeCentral.

“We welcomed the opportunity to work with the state of Virginia and to provide continued support around streamlining our customer’s workflows in support of new regulatory requirements,” said Curaspan President and CEO Thomas Ferry.
