At the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society annual conference in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 11-14, Adam Boehler, CIO of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, said the goal of the challenge is to improve the quality of care and cut costs by using AI, STAT reports.
The AI initiative, promoted under the tagline, “It’s time for a disruption in healthcare — and CMS wants to help lead it,” invites developers from all industry sectors to introduce ways AI can impact healthcare delivery.
“I think you’ll see a lot more on the prevention side to get us to a system where we can stop disease before it happens,” Mr. Boehler said, according to STAT, adding that AI could be used to help providers intervene earlier by predicting patients’ risk of costly medical emergencies.
The challenge is expected to roll out in the coming weeks, and Mr. Boehler said top submissions will receive a significant financial award, STAT reports.
